4. this book tells about one hundred and fifty years the first shots were fired on Fort Sumter, the Civil War still captures the American imagination, and its reverberations can still be felt throughout America's social and political landscape.

The book gives the readers a glimpse into what transpired, the difficulties the country faced, and the many lives that were lost. the author does an admirable job describing the events that lead to the start of the war, the war itself , the important people that played a role, and some of the fall out and after effects of the war. if you are looking for a short history of the civil war this may be a good shorting point.
